Alonissos

Part of the Sporades complex, Alonissos is an authentic island mostly known for its incredible natural beauty and the amazing beaches. Chora is the most picturesque village in Alonissos island, located on top of a hill and offering great view to the Aegean Sea.



The main port of the island is located in the southeast and is called Patitiri. There is ferry and hydrofoil service from Patitiri to Volos, Agios Konstantinos, and Thessaloniki on the mainland and to the islands of Skiathos, Skopelos and Skyros.

Beaches

Alonissos is a lovely island with much greenery and cozy beaches. Even in high season, it keeps a calm and relaxing atmosphere. The beaches around the island consist of pebbles.

Patitiri, Votsi and Roussoum Gialos are the most tourist places of the island, while the beaches are actually small coves with crystal water and relaxing atmosphere.

Accommodation

Patitiri, the port and capital village of Alonissos Greece, hosts the majority of accommodations on the island. Although there are some small hotels in the region, accommodation mostly includes traditional studios, self catering apartments and rooms for your Alonissos holidays. The seaside villages around the port, like Votsi and Roussoum Gialos, also offer cozy studios and rooms with all the necessary facilities and good access to the beach. Some hotels have luxury facilities, like pools.

Alonissos museums

The green island of Alonissos is unhabited since the Paleolithic times and has been an important trade center in the Classical period. It is home only to a single museum that depicts traditional life on the island. The Mavrikis Folklore Museum is perched on a hill overlooking Patitiri and aims to preserve the history of Alonissos.

The museum contains rooms with costumes, agricultural tools and objects from the daily life of the locals and vast collection of local artworks. The building is used for many art exhibitions which take place during the summer. You can access the museum on foot and enjoy the remarkable view to the picturesque harbour.

Marine Park

The National Marine Park of Alonissos is located in Northern Sporades. It is the first marine park in Greece comprising of Alonissos and six smaller islands as well as some uninhabited rocky outcrops. The area is rich in marine life and is the habitat of the endangered species, the Mediterranean Monk Seal (Monachus Monachus), one of the rarest animals in Europe with only around 800 surviving worldwide.

Blue Cave

The wild and rocky coastline of Alonissos island is gifted with many small and amazing caves wih deep and blue waters that impress every visitor. The most famous among them is the Blue Cave . Water around the Blue Cave is so clear that the wild rocks around are reflected on them. This is a nice and impressive place to see. Usually the boats that arrive there get inside the blue cave and tourists can take some nice dives. You will certainly experience something unique.
