Paxos , the spellbinding island of Ionian Sea, captivates the heart of holidaymaker with its lush vegetation, scenic beaches and the natural beauty.


Mythology

According  to Greek mythology, the island of Paxos was created when Poseidon the Greek God of the sea hit the island of Corfu with his trident, breaking off the southern tip creating Paxos . He wanted to create a peaceful island, in order to live there with his lover Amphitrite.

Getting there

By boat

There are ferry boats and hydrofoils from the port of Igoumenitsa on the mainland and from Corfu to Paxi.




Accommodation

Gaios, Lakka and Logos are the three villages of Paxi  island. There the visitor can find a great number of accommodation options, from rooms and studios to apartments and villas.



Beaches

Harami beach

This beach is located close to Lakka village. It is well-organized with sunbeds and umbrellas, ideal destination for families with children because of its calm waters.

Monodendri beach

This spectacular beach with pebbles and crystal clear waters amazes their bathers. The combination of lush vegetation and turquoise sea have made it the most famous  place for swimming. There the visitor can enjoy a delicious meal or a cool refreshment in the tavern or the bar of the area respectively.

Marmari near to Loggos village. A small  sheltered bay where the shade of olive trees welcome the bathers.  Only accessible by walking or by boat.

Mogonisi beach

At the southern point of Paxos, one of the best beaches of the island is the sandy beach of Mogonisi. You can reach there by road from Gaios village. Also it is an ideal moor for boats and yachts. The Mogonisi beach provides the bathers toilets and shower facilities as well as umbrellas and sunbeds.

After visiting the island of Paxos you will have the opportunity to explore more beaches, sandy or pebbled. Additionally, it is worth mentioning the beach of Antipaxi ,accessible  only by boat from Paxos which is considered magnificent site with its marvelous emerald waters.

Folklore Museum

Located on Gaios village, exhibits items from  the Prehistoric, the Classical and the Roman times. The visitor can admire pieces of pottery, kitchen tools, furniture and many other items of the daily life of residents.

The Venetian fortress of Agios Nikolaos

The Venetian fortress was built on the top of the islet very close to the port of Gaios , for the protection of the island from pirates. The visitor can reach the fortress of Agios Nikolaos with small boats  from the port of Gaios.

Festival

At the beginning and at the end of summer the island hosts famous Greek and foreigner soloists.

Local products

The most famous local products are olive oil and wine.
